Working alone

If you visit people on your own, a few habits cut the risk. This is for carers, estate agents, tradespeople, delivery drivers and nurses.

Before you leave

  • Tell one person the address and when you expect to be back.
  • Charge your phone and know how you will get out.
  • If the address has caused trouble before, do not go alone.

While you are there

  • Keep your phone and keys on you.
  • Leave if it feels wrong. You do not need a reason.
  • Do not let anyone stand between you and the door.

When you finish

Tell your contact you are safe. Note anything you would want to know next time.
